GILGAMESH                           by Griff Braley

Written on clay, 2000 years ago. Key tablets were unearthed by self-taught, British archeologist George Smith. A visceral theatrical work exploring the parallel journeys of an epic character and a modern man.

Gilgamesh, Enkidu, Utnapishtim, and the Bull of Heaven from the epic provide a visceral backdrop for a very human story.

George Smith's journals, and other historical documents, provide the basis for a discovery of the distant relationship of Smith and his wife Mary, as well as the professional jealousy among the Men of the British Museum. Smith's success in gaining possession of the influential Flood Tablet, and his death in the field while on a dig, provide the opportunity for an imagined overlay of Smith and the character of Gilgamesh

A Production of this title provides tremendous opportunites for visuals, music, dance and more.

One thing that comes out in myths is that at the bottom of the abyss comes the voice of salvation.

The black moment is the moment when the real message of transformation is going to come.

At the darkest moment comes the light.

- Joseph Campbell
